group of people sitting outside by a pool in daytime

During the busy summer months, the blessings of freedom and friendship are fresh.  My mentor, Jim Rohn, used to say, “You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with.”  Take a moment to determine the core values most important to you.  Now, think about the 5 major influencers in your life, outside of family.  Are these core values represented in this group?

I want to be around people that inspire me.  I want to be around people that bring the joy.  Sure, they might bust my chops, but I know they genuinely want for my happiness and will go out of their way to bring it.  They have a big heart and enjoy being in the presence of others.  They love to laugh.  They build me up and pick me up when I am down.

Nature tends to select for us if we aren’t deliberate in our choosing.  So here is where the personal challenge comes in.  If I expect to attract these people into my life, I must live these values.  So, every day I strive to be this person.  That is who I aspire to be but often fall short because I am human and fallible.  The criteria should be a guide to help ensure that you are surrounding yourself with people that bring joy and value into your life.
